Grain Shelf Life: Production Date Or Harvest Date?

When buying grains, do you ever pay attention to the dates on them? For example, black beans bought on November 25, 2024, had a harvest date of October 1, 2023, but a production date of June 2024. Based on this, the shelf life wouldn't even be 12 months! Is that correct?

Actually, while modern storage and preservation technologies are constantly improving, the shelf life of grains is still limited. After all, the freshness of agricultural products is very important. If stored properly, grains may have a longer shelf life, but that doesn't mean they have no shelf life at all.

Therefore, when buying grains, pay attention to both the production date and the shelf life! This will ensure you buy fresh and safe food.
